The last day you are an only child

Dear Parker,

Today is the last day you are our only child.  1597 days of us.  It seems like just yesterday that we first met.  It hasn't always been easy for any of us, but being your parents has been the most rewarding thing we have ever done.  You bring so much happiness to everything you do and everyone you meet.  So many people mention how joyful you are and how you are constantly smiling.  Tonight will be the last time you go to bed without a sibling.  I am already getting teary thinking about it.  We will sing our songs, read our books, and say our prayers.  You will go to sleep as you always do (after some giggling and goofing around for a bit.)  I am not sure if you really understand what awaits you tomorrow, but I can't wait for you to meet your baby sister.  We have learned more from you in the last 4 years than you have learned from us and she is so lucky to have you as a big brother.  We are excited to watch you grow and learn together in the weeks and months and years to come.  You will always be our baby, you will always be our first, but you will never be our only child again.  Thank you for making us a family, thank you for making us better people, thank you for loving us.

Love,

Mom and Dad
