Squishy Twins and a Squished Toe

**Warning: pictures of a squished toe are below. Nothing too gruesome, but proceed with caution if you are squeamish**

When it rains, it pours.  As if this month wasn't enough already, the day after getting back from vacation I headed to my brother and Kelsey's to relieve my mom of baby duty.  My brother was out of town and Kelsey had some sort of nasty bug.  She tested negative for covid several times, but this was a doozy.  Either way, I should be good since I just got over it.  My mom was exhausted from almost two weeks of helping with our kids, so I was more than happy to hang out with the boys for a while so Kelsey could rest.  They are getting so big!
On Saturday night, while we were still unpacking, I heard a thud from the kitchen then saw Parker hobble to the living room. All evidence points to our iPad falling off the counter on to his toe.  The first 36 hours it didn't look too bad.  A bit bruised, but no swelling.  By Monday night, after school and therapy, a decent size blood blister formed.  I check with Jimmy's sister, who is a nurse, and decided to take him in Tuesday morning.
He was a little nervous, but did great overall.  Too much time had passed to drill a relief hole in the nail (not sure that would have gone well anyway).  We saw a new doctor and she was phenomenal.  She took note of his diagnoses and spoke directly to him with first-then language which he loves. She did a physical exam then ordered an x-ray.  That was the hardest part of the visit.  The machinery was really frightening to him even though it didn't touch his body.  There were new lights and sounds and he didn't know what was going to happen.  He was able to stand up and they got 2 of the 3 pictures they hoped for.  No break or other areas of concern.  Just elevation, ice, rest... haha, we will see how that goes.
By Wednesday morning it was getting so big and obviously painful for him.  If you look closely at the picture below on the right, you can see a darker spot that looked ready to pop.  Sure enough it did about 20 minutes later.  It didn't make too much of a mess and we were able to bandage him up.  You could tell right away that it was less painful and he started walking almost normally.
We'll wrap it daily until it starts to heal a little more.  His nail will likely fall off and regrow back sometime over the next year.
