The best and probably longest surprise I ever kept was finally revealed! We too the kids to Disney World! Back in March we made a spur of the moment decision to book this trip. Jimmy and I discussed how this age might be the perfect time with Esme's interest in Disney Princesses and being old enough to handle a big theme park. Parker also loves rides and we thought there would be lots of fun for him as well. We invited my mom to come along as an extra set of hands and to be Parker's buddy where needed. We told the kids Friday afternoon and left the next day.
Parker loves flying and was so excited to be on a plane again.
Esme (along with most of the other kids on the plane) had a bit of a cough so we had her wear a mask.
Thunderstorms are a common, nearly every day thing in Florida and they caused us some major issues on the way there. We were diverted to West Palm beach because we didn't have enough fuel to wait for it to clear up in Orlando. Then there was weather in West Palm Beach that delayed refueling. We spent almost 4 hours longer on the plane than anticipated, but the kids did great all things considered.
We were all pretty hungry by the time we landed, so i grabbed the finest airport fast food for everyone then waited I waited for the rental car.
At this point I was very glad we ordered groceries for pick up and didn't have to go shopping. The weather cleared up and we were able to hit the hotel pool shortly after arriving. We stayed "on property" ,as they like to say, at Disney's All Star Music Resort. They offer a unique family suite with a bedroom, kitchenette, two bathrooms, and a living area with two murphy beds.
We started at the large guitar shaped pool.
Then moved on to the smaller piano shaped pool. I was loving being fully immersed in Disney!
Our room had a fridge/freezer, microwave, and sink. We brought an electric fry pan along for another cooking method. I was able to make pancakes for the kids and egg scrambled for the adults.
Sunday was an unplanned day for us. We spent some time exploring the resort in the morning.
There are music style themed buildings throughout. Calypso, Jazz, Rock, Country, and Broadway.
A perk of staying on Disney property was free waterpark admission on your day of arrival. We had planned to go on Saturday, but our flight issue derailed that plan. Thankfully we were blessed with some fairy dust. When I grabbed our access cards I asked if there was a way to use it another day. Aladdin (his real name!) at the front desk made it happen for us! My family visited Blizzard Beach the year it opened and it was a fun blast from the past.
Parker immediately wanted to hit the wave pool.
The ski theme includes a chairlift to the top of the mountain.
Family raft ride
Lazy river and racing hill.
They shut some things down for lightening in the area so we headed back to the resort for our lunch break and to check out the arcade. Nearly all of the games were going for free because they were shutting it down to remodel soon.
Parker got his first souvenir, a spray fan he'd been eyeing up. We headed back to the water park for a few more hours in the afternoon.
Esme enjoyed a brownie sundae and Parker could have floated forever!
We took Esme on a solo mini golf outing. This was another free perk we got with our resort stay.
This was nearby the water park and had two 18 hole courses, one summer themed and one winter themed. We did the winter side.
Despite the airplane hiccup, our trip was off to a great start!
