Our family beach vacation finally took off after a 17 month delay. We were supposed to be splashing in the Pacific off the coast of Mazatlan, Mexico in March 2020, but ended up in the Atlantic and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We had an 8:00am flight on Friday, August 20th, so my parents and Jayden met at our house about 5:30 and we all piled in the van to head to the airport. We dropped off our checked bags and headed towards security. The line wasn't too long and the kids behaved pretty well. Parker has become an expert at lowering his mask below his nose without touching it, but listened when we asked him to put it back up.
Coffee and a quick breakfast before boarding and we were on our way.
Parker had been saying "no, no, no" when we talked about flying in the days leading up to our trip. We decided just to tell him we were going to beach that morning to hopefully ease any nerves. He was fine until we started to taxi. The loud and unknown noises scared him a little. My mom gave him a pillow to hug tight and he shed a few tears. Once we were up in the air, he did great! Esme has no issues other than not wanting the windows open. I was hoping to peek out, but she wasn't having it.
Parker watched Luca the whole flight, but Esme just wanted to play with toys and didn't bother with her iPad at all.
We had some time to burn before being able to access our rental house. So, we made it two vacations in a row going right from the airport to Krispie Kreme! Then Esme fell asleep in the McDonalds parking lot waiting for lunch. We made a couple other stops for things we needed during out stay, then headed to the house.
We headed right for the pool after checking out the house. Our rental community was perfect for our family. It had one indoor and two outdoor pools, a hot tub, and a kid's splash pad. The splash pad was right next to the smaller pool, so the adults could hangout there while watching the kids.
My mom and I did a full grocery shop once we saw what the house had to offer. It was great having a whole house to ourselves. After breakfast on Saturday we made our first visit to the beach! While we technically went to the beach and swam in the ocean on our cruise, but it was nothing like this.
Esme started the week a little timid near and in the water, but loved exploring the sand. She built sandcastle, dug for shells, and waded in the shallows.
Parker was at home in the water. I got a lot more pictures of Esme up on the shore. This one from the first day pretty much sums it up. He loved the waves crashing in to him over and over.
Naps were not hard to come by with all of our activity. We spent most of the time swimming or changing before and after swimming, but played games and explored out neighborhood on the golf cart in between.
We ordered out for our second supper. The Conch Cafe was right next to our beach parking lot and I was able to use the golf cart to pick up.
Here are some clips from our first 2 days.
