Our baby turned 5 yesterday. I know it's cliche, but I just can't believe how quickly the time is passing. The oddness and uncertainty of this last year also makes it feel like it never happened sometimes. He birthday party was the first big celebration we had to cancel last year so we were excited to honor her this year. She's been asking to do "silly faces" on my phone, so we did some birthday ones the night before.
Ready to go to school! I have been really enjoying making our tree signs, so of course we had a dino one for the big day. You can also see there was a bit of snow, which is on par for mid-April these days.
After school we had some fun "first time in a long time" outings. She got to choose donuts, ice cream, or cupcakes and picked cupcakes. She went in to Nadia cakes with me and chose vanilla vanilla with sprinkles. Parker requested a pink cupcake, so he got fresh strawberry.
Our next stop was Target. Other than a couple bathroom breaks, the kids haven't been inside in over a year. It was so much to watch her explore, observe, and comment on things she sees.
She was allowed to spend up to $30 on a birthday present of choice. She really lit up when we got to the Peppa Pig section. At first she wanted to huge $60 play set, but had to settle for two smaller ones. She got the camper van and birthday sets.
We grabbed some Costco pizza and ate at home before opening her new toys.
She also got to open her card from great grandma Bette and was thrilled with her $10.
My dearest Esme,
Despite the challenges and differences of the last year, you have continued to learn, grow, and flourish. Daddy and I are so proud of the little lady growing up before our eyes. I look forward to many more of your bedtime stories and chats. Happy 5th birthday sweet girl!
Love, Mama
